Use AI to Plan Your Day

In a recent Professional Scrum Master - AI Essentials class, we were sharing ideas on how each of us use AI in our daily work. One of the Scrum Masters shared a particularly good approach that I think is worth sharing (with their permission, of course).
Many people are using AI like it's a slightly smarter search engine. And sure, I use it that way too. But if that's all you're using it for, let me tell you, you're missing out!
If your AI has read-only access to your email, Teams messages, and calendar, try starting every morning with these questions:
Summarize what changed since yesterday from my emails and Teams messages. Group into: Actions for me / FYI / Risks
Based on my calendar, emails and to do list, what are my top 3 priorities today? For each one, include your recommended next step.
What deliverables or commitments do I have due today or this week? List the owner (me vs. others) and any mentioned deadlines.
Include a note to AI asking for the questions to be answered in as few words as possible and for the response to be formatted as bullet points.
If your AI has access to your Product Backlog...
If you can also give the AI access to your Product Backlog (or you export it daily or you have it set up to send you an email when a task is assigned to you), then you can also use AI to let you know if there is anything currently (or recently) assigned to you that needs your focus:
Looking at my Product Backlog and current assignments: What are the most important things I personally need to move forward today?
Or, were any new tasks or questions assigned to me since yesterday?
Other Powerful Ways to Use AI
If you are a Product Owner and your AI has access to the Product Backlog, don't forget to use AI to perform tasks such as the following:
Backlog Triage: Review my Product Backlog and flag items older than 120 days. Suggest which ones should be archived or reprioritized. Also identify duplicates for possible deletion.
Sprint Review Prep: Export the Sprint Backlog from the previous Sprint and ask it to create a value-focused summary for stakeholders. (I love using https://notebooklm.google.com/ for this or if you are using Copilot you can ask for an infographic summary of the previous Sprint)
Stakeholder Strategy: Based on recent emails and transcripts from recent meetings, who seems misaligned? Suggest a proactive message I should send.
Weekly Reflection: What patterns do you see in how I spent my time this week? What should I start, stop, or continue?
Bottom Line
AI won’t replace good Product Ownership or Scrum Mastery, of course, but it can help you do a better job and save you some time. It's not just for writing emails or generating ideas. When you give AI real context, it can be a partner that helps you organize your work.
